Mark
is a Kannada dubbed action thriller movie. I watched it as this year’s installment from the same hero director combo of Max (last year’s hit, very much like Kaithi vibes). Same hero, same director, basically same tailor, same rental. Let’s see how this one is.
According to the story, the core point is a video where a Chief Minister’s son kills the C.M inside a hospital during treatment. That video is the main spine of the story. The next layer is that the son of the person who recorded that murder as a spy video goes missing along with the mobile phone. Another layer on top of that is a psycho named Rudhra who kidnaps 18 children. Above that, there’s Rudhra’s personal motive, he runs away with his lover, earns money in dollars, and does this kidnapping just to prove to his brother that he is also a big deal.
Above all this is his brother, Bhadra, a cruel villain with obsessive affection. If anything happens against his wishes, he sees it as an insult and reacts violently. On top of that comes another layer, Bhadra’s illegal rangoli business. Over that is Stephen Raj, the supervisor of this business, who is about to get married the next day but the rangoli gets caught by the police today. He sends goons to take out goods worth 2000 crores from the police station. Yes, yet another layer.
The goons walk straight into the police station, tie up all the cops, and make them sit quietly. One random goon, totally unrelated, starts hyping up Mark with mass builup dialogues. Everyone wonders who this legendary Mark is. Right on cue, present sir, Baasha a.k.a. Kichcha Sudeep a.k.a. Ajay Markandeya a.k.a. Mark, a suspended SP, marks his attendance.
Mark’s entry comes with a very average song.
Then the hero smokes. Then a fight scene. Then he smokes again. Then another fight. Smoke. Fight. Smoke. Fight. For a change, sometimes he fights while smoking. For another change, sometimes he smokes while fighting.
In between all this, the CM’s son sends goons to kill Mark. Stephen Raj, who lost the rangoli, sends goons to kill Mark. Bhadra, trying to save his brother Rudhra, also sends goons to kill Mark. Wait… hold on… let me check the attendance list to see who else has sent goons to kill Mark.
And if nobody sends goons for some time, Mark himself goes to their area and says, Hello, I was waiting for you to send people to beat me up. Where are they? and then casually beats them up himself. Between all these fights, he also searches and investigates to find Archana, the missing sister of one of the kidnapped children.
At one point, he gets tired and sits somewhere quietly. A side character asks,
Sir, what happened? Mark blast a laugh and says, Looks like I smoked too much. From now on, I should reduce it. creating some social awareness, and then continues that same blast laugh.
Jokes apart, Sudeep is very charming throughout the film. He’s tall too. Even if he lifts people and throws them around like washing clothes, it feels believable. Though honestly, even in wrestling, nobody throws people like that. But that’s reality show, different department.
Overall, the movie is good. If you liked Max, you’ll like Mark too. For next year’s installment from this combo, try guessing what title they’ll use, and drop it in the comments. Let’s speculate like a Marvel universe story. That itself will be more fun than the movie.
See you in the next post!
