Enola Holmes 3

Enola Holmes 3

is the third movie in the Enola Holmes franchise. It is a period detective series. If you have not read my post of the first two movies, you can click and read my Enola Holmes post first. Coming to the cast, Enola Holmes is played by Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things. Her brother Sherlock Holmes is played by Henry Cavill, who played Superman. Their mother is played by Helena Bonham Carter. Now let us see how my experience with this third movie was.

According to the story, Enola and Tewkesbury have had a love and fight relationship right from the first movie. Remember how Enola saved a young lord from being murdered in the first movie and became a detective just like Sherlock after finding the people behind it? That same Tewkesbury is now getting married on the island of Malta. It is the wedding day. Enola keeps wondering whether she should go or not, whether marriage is really necessary, almost like she is tossing a coin on the wedding day itself. Finally she decides Fine, let us just go and get married. She starts late, but on the way Watson brings shocking news. Sherlock has disappeared and it looks like someone has kidnapped him. That is it. Enola immediately leaves the wedding, leaves Tewkesbury waiting inside the church with the rings and starts searching while thinking Oh no, where are you my brother?

The wedding does not happen that day. Tewkesbury's mother gets angry and takes him away that very night. In other words, Enola's future mother in law disappears too. Now things become even more serious. Who kidnapped my brother Sherlock? Who kidnapped my future mother in law? From that moment, bride Enola becomes Detective Enola Holmes once again. Along with Watson, her mother and her future husband Tewkesbury, she tries to find out whether the same people kidnapped both of them or whether different people were involved, why they were kidnapped, how they were kidnapped, whether they are still alive, where they are being held and who is behind all of this.

First of all, Enola is no longer a little girl. She was always more mature than her age, but now she is a complete adult. She also looks really beautiful. Yes, I had to mention that here because I genuinely felt it while watching the movie. Next comes the romance. They did not hold back at all. Even the romantic water scenes in the sea are shown without any hesitation.

The actor who plays Watson is an Indian. That alone gives us a familiar feeling while watching the movie, almost like watching a Tamil film. I wonder how audiences from other countries felt about that. Another interesting thing is that Enola herself is the one who introduces Watson to Sherlock. That happens in the climax of the second movie.

Not just the second movie, the story has been continuing layer by layer right from the first part. So if you really want to understand this movie, you should definitely watch the first two movies first. This is a fun detective movie franchise. One of its biggest strengths is the wonderful brother and sister chemistry between Henry Cavill and Millie Bobby Brown. It is simply lovely to watch them together. It even makes us wait for those emotional moments where they finally show their love and care for each other.

Another thing I really liked is the location. Unlike the first two movies with their dirty streets, beautiful Victorian costumes and crowded British roads, this movie is set completely on the island of Malta. The way the island is shown is beautiful. Every time they mention the name Malta, I kept thinking Oh, this is really an island. No wonder everything looks so open and beautiful instead of feeling like a movie set.

Compared to the light hearted period detective tone of the first movie, this one slowly moves into a darker and more serious mood. That change becomes very noticeable from the scene just before the future mother in law goes missing.

This is not a Sherlock Holmes story. It is a new story written by Nancy Springer. There is one thing I purposely did not mention in my previous posts about this, because I wanted everyone to experience it themselves. Enola frequently breaks the fourth wall. That means the main character speaks directly to the audience from the screen. It is similar to how Deadpool talks directly to us. The first time I ever saw something like this was in The Mask cartoon where the Mask character spoke directly to the audience through the television screen.

If you enjoyed the first two Enola Holmes movies, you will definitely enjoy this third one as well. It is available on Netflix.

Alright friends, we will meet again in the next post. See ya.
