CASHERO
It is a Korean action hero, science-fiction web series. Unfortunately, it is not available in Tamil. So I had to watch it in Korean itself with English subtitles. I also cannot really mention the actors in a big way because most of them may not be familiar to us. So let’s get straight into the web series and see how it is.
According to the story, the hero is a very ordinary and innocent citizen. The heroine is a dominating character. Both of them are in love. But among the two, it is always the girl who gets angry often. In simple words, she behaves almost like a strict mother. The way a mother at home keeps scolding and pushing her son to do things, the heroine also keeps forcing the hero to agree to certain things, work harder, and earn money. The reason she pushes him to earn is because she has one big dream to buy a house. So she keeps saving money for that. But no, this is not like some recent Tamil movie stories. This is completely different. The hero’s parents live separately in their own house, and the heroine’s parents also live separately in theirs. These two are living together. So far, there is no strong talk about marriage, but we can clearly feel that both of them do have that wish somewhere inside.
At one point, the hero goes to visit his parent's house. There, his father shakes hands with him and transfers his full power to his son, who is his heir. Now what exactly is that power? If the hero has cash in his hand, he becomes a superhero. He can almost do everything Superman can do, except for a few things. For example, he cannot hear things happening far away, he does not have X-ray vision, and he does not have laser beam eyes. Other than that, he even has a healing capacity like Wolverine. But all this works only if he has cash in hand. If he does not have cash, then he is just the same ordinary person as before. Now the real problem is this, if he uses those powers to save people in danger, which any normal human being would naturally want to do, all the cash notes in his hand turn into coins and roll away. In other words, whenever he uses his powers, his money gets spent away. So in this situation, how is he ever going to save money and buy a house? That is the core of the story.
Once a hero enters the story, obviously there has to be a villain group too, right? There has to be some trouble for the hero. And here, there are plenty of problems. Since the hero is a superhero, the problems mainly come in the form of villains. And not just male villains, both men and women are involved. One whole family in the story kidnaps superheroes like him, keeps them in their lab, extracts their powers, and seems to be planning something huge with it. Let’s not reveal too much right now. When I say “superheroes,” I mean not just the cash hero, but also other people like a girl who gets powers if she eats bread, a man who becomes superhuman if he drinks alcohol, and many more. There is even a girl whose whole body heats up like fire when she gets angry. There are many such characters in the story, and most of them are not even highlighted properly. These people are all being kidnapped and used for experiments. At one stage, they even make a deal with the hero, asking if he is willing to give up his powers in exchange for however much money he wants. And surprisingly, the hero agrees. But only after going there does he realize the truth, once they extract his powers, they are planning to kill him. He only wanted to give up all this and live a normal life, but instead he walks straight into danger. Then he starts regretting it badly and tries to escape. But the problem is, without money in his hand, he cannot even break free properly or move around with strength. He is trapped helplessly.
So the entire story is basically about how the hero keeps trying to do something good, but ends up getting his own life into danger, and then struggles to escape from all that. The story is serious in nature, but as viewers, we never feel too dark or too heavy while watching it. It somehow keeps a lite and easygoing feel throughout.
The heroine is definitely written as a dominating character. But in almost every episode, it is the hero who ends up dominating the screen and carrying everything on his shoulders. At many points, we may even feel irritated and think, “Do we even need this heroine in the story?” But then, just before the climax, there is one really goosebumps worthy moment that fixes all of that. In that scene, the way she cries feels very natural. It does not feel forced or overdramatic. It is handled in a very beautiful and emotional way. Compared to everything she had done to the hero from the beginning, that one scene really stands out as her big emotional moment. Now if the heroine gets one strong goosebumps moment, then of course the hero should also get one bigger moment to balance it, right? And yes, they do that too. They place one such powerful scene for the hero in the climax. It works out really well, almost like those mass scenes we usually get in A.R. Murugadoss or Shankar films. I could say more about it, but that may become a spoiler. It is something we can kind of predict on our own anyway, but still, I would rather not say it.
There is actually a lot more to talk about, but I will stop here. In total, it is around seven hours long. Overall, it is a good timepass web series that is worth watching once. See you in the next post.
