Tere Ishk Mein - Until the last breath

Tere Ishk Mein

is a Hindi movie starring Dhanush. Kriti Sanon and Prakash Raj also act in it. Honestly, I didn’t really recognize any of the other actors. From the moment the movie started, I kept getting Raanjhanaa vibes. The locations felt almost the same, and that’s one big reason. The same combo again, Anand L. Rai, A. R. Rahman, and Dhanush. So let’s see how it turned out.

According to the story, love is shown as the way Shankar slowly falls for Mukti. The first act is mainly designed to establish Dhanush’s character traits for the audience, with many angry and aggressive scenes. But those scenes didn’t really connect well. We don’t clearly understand why he is hitting others or why people are getting beaten up. When you look at why this character is written this way, it becomes clear through Kriti’s character. She is doing research or a thesis on angry young men like him. For this, a strong entry. From that point, Mukti’s full attention turns towards Shankar. What Shankar expects is a very basic and sarcastic question, Which girl will even look at someone like me? To answer that, Mukti starts spending time with him. From there, the next act begins. Shankar falls in love with Mukti.

The entire first act is built around this. If you manage to sit through that, the next act truly takes us on an emotional rollercoaster. I’m a very weak hearted person, so I don’t know how much Dhanush felt the pain, but I definitely felt it deeply. I honestly couldn’t continue watching the movie after the interval. I didn’t have the courage. For two days, I didn’t feel like watching any other movie. My mind was completely filled with that pain.

Mukti invites Shankar to her house because she wants to talk to her father about this matter. There, it is revealed that her father is an IAS officer. When he talks proudly about his status, the hot headed Shankar takes a vow, like saying Can you be a C.M for a day? that he will only talk to Mukti after he becomes an IAS officer himself. Oh my god! Shankar doesn’t even know what exam it is, but the rest of the story shows how he struggles, tries, and keeps failing step by step. But honestly, if a man takes something this seriously, not for himself but for the girl he loves, and tries so hard to become an IAS officer just for her, doesn’t that show how much he truly respects her? That’s exactly what Shankar does. He puts himself through immense effort for Mukti, and in the end, he succeeds. His vow is this, Only after becoming an IAS officer I will call you. And when I do, you must attend my call, Mukti. After that, Shankar’s entire life purpose becomes fighting just to make that phone call.

He finally makes the call. And right there, the entire movie feels like it has already ended. Whether Mukti attends the call or not depends completely on the director’s need at that moment. That’s it. That’s the movie! There is another act after this. It is somewhat emotional, but it mostly contains scenes that feel unnecessary and irrelevant. As far as Tere Ishk Mein is concerned, the only thing that truly matters is whether Shankar makes the call or not. Not whether Mukti attends it. Everything after that is just after effects. Yes, you can take it in a positive way. But if you do that, what real depth does the story actually gain?

If you love someone, stand only for that love. If the girl or boy says no, step aside and continue loving them quietly. Moving on depends on individual needs. Living while constantly thinking about someone is also a beautiful part of life. Imagining that you’re with someone even when they’re not. But inside the heart, the time you lived with them feels like the most beautiful phase. And even more beautiful than that is living while still remembering them. Don’t ask whether all this is shown in the movie. I’m just saying that the story could have gone this way too. That idea really worked for me, and I liked it a lot. But did the story really need to continue after Shankar’s phone call?
