Cheekatilo - Maams

Cheekatilo

is a Telugu dubbed serial killer film. The cast includes Aamni, Kozhi Koovuthu Suresh, and Sobhita Dhulipala. Some other faces also look familiar, but it’s hard to place where we’ve seen them. Anyway, let’s see how the movie is.

According to the story, Sandhya is a news reader in a crime report program. But she doesn’t like reading news that is not true. So she quits her job and starts a podcast. Then, Bobby, a girl who worked with her and gave her this podcast idea, is found brutally dead along with her boyfriend. The details of their deaths give Sandhya a very disturbing feeling.

Her boyfriend is found dead with something stuffed into his mouth using a belt, covered in blood. Bobby is lying in the hall wearing a camisole, her body full of injuries, raped and with her throat slit. On top of that, when they check the bedroom, it is filled with BDSM items. This becomes a huge topic in all media, turning into both a question and mockery.

After that, Sandhya fully focuses on her podcast. This creates a big problem for the police. They say people can talk anything for 30 seconds of fame, but in the end, it is the police who will solve the case. What happens next and how the case gets solved is the rest of the story.

In every crime, the killer leaves a signature. After raping, if he has time, he kills the victim. If not, he leaves a jasmine flower and a small anklet bell on the victim’s head. Whether he kills or not, this signature is always there.

When we trace this pattern back, there are many such cases. One thing to appreciate is that these scenes don’t feel boring. They make us understand the seriousness of the crimes. After that, we start believing in the story more and begin to like the movie.

From there till the end, the movie keeps us guessing who the killer is until the climax, which is impressive. But the killer’s flashback slightly reminds us of Sigappu Rojakkal. Still, it’s not too obvious, which is a relief.

From the beginning, we keep asking questions. Why did she quit her job? Okay, she didn’t like fake news, fair enough. Why did she start a podcast? Right, Bobby suggested it, and now she is dead. Every scene has a clear reason and purpose, and it feels convincing. Even till the climax, questions like why the killer kills some, spares others, or leaves gaps are all handled convincingly.

So overall, the movie is really good and definitely worth watching.
