Mrithyunjay - Well written & neat executed

Mrithyunjay

is a Telugu dubbed crime thriller film. The cast includes Reba Monica John, Ayyappa Sharma (Vettaiakaran villain), Aishwarya (D/o Lakshmi), Anish Kuruvilla (from Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal), along with Veer Aryan as the villain and Sree Vishnu as the hero. Let’s see how the experience of watching this film is.

According to the story, Jai works in a newspaper handling obituary ads. It’s quite an unusual job, he attends funerals, gathers details about the deceased, and even gives emotional speeches as if he personally knew them. Then he suggests publishing their death in the newspaper so more people can know. He starts by putting in some money himself, and others follow, contributing amounts. This way, he manages to generate income for many obituary ads every month.

But his real goal is to become a crime reporter. However, his department keeps him in the obituary section because moving him would affect the steady income he brings. How Jai eventually gets involved in crime reporting forms the rest of the story.

Within this, there is another layer. From the beginning, we keep seeing deaths because of his job. In some cases, there is doubt was it really an accident or actually a murder? Even Jai starts suspecting this. He tries to inform the police, but they refuse to believe him. In this situation, when Jai discovers a pattern in the killings, the story shifts into a high speed hero vs villain face off, somewhat reminding of Thani Oruvan in terms of narrative intensity. Not exactly the same, but the gripping screenplay gives a similar feel.

This is mainly a hero - villain story. There is a heroine character played by Reba Monica John, but she is not really paired with the hero. Her role is limited, mostly appearing as an obstacle at times. Honestly, the story could have worked even without bringing her character out prominently. On the other hand, the hero’s friends and supporting characters actively help him till the end in identifying the villain. Except for the heroine’s role, all other characters including the villain are written effectively.

Overall, this film works really well. The investigation angle, the pattern discovery, and the fast-paced conflict make it engaging. It’s a film that I genuinely liked. You can give it a watch, you’ll likely enjoy it too.

See ya!
