Delhi Crime Season 2
is a crime thriller web series inspired by a real incident that happened many years ago, but the story is presented as if it is happening in the present. I have already written about Delhi Crime Season 3. You can read that first and then continue. I definitely have to mention the actors. Shefali Shah and Rasika Dugal play the DCP and ACP. I felt like I had seen Rasika, who plays Neeti Singh, somewhere before. Honestly, I never searched about her. Reddit kept showing me a few of her videos. Then I realized she was Beena Bhabhi from Mirzapur. That is why she looked familiar. In this season she has her own personal life track. In fact every important character has one. After watching this season I finally understood why she got divorced in Season 3. That happened because I watched the series in reverse order. So many things did not make sense before. Actually it was not even reverse order. It was random. First I watched Season 1, then Season 3, and now Season 2. Come let us see how that experience was.
As per the story, a gang targets houses where only rich senior citizens live. They break in at night, brutally kill them with hammers and axes, then steal all the money and jewelry. Before leaving they even enjoy the food and drinks in the house. Everything from entering the house to the murders and robbery is recorded on the CCTV cameras. The gang is called the Kachha Baniyan Gang. They were a very famous robbery gang in North India during the 1990s. Their uniform was just underwear and a vest. They covered their bodies with oil and carried hammers and axes while committing these crimes. Just like the tribe shown in Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, this gang also belonged to a tribal community. The biggest confusion for the police is that this gang had disappeared almost twenty years ago after the police cracked down on them. Suddenly the exact same method appears again. The clothes are the same. The way they kill is the same. The robbery style is the same. Even eating the food inside the victims' houses is the same. So the police wonder How is this possible We already stopped them years ago. Then how is the exact same method happening again
The beauty of a good detective is not just catching criminals. Even if someone is caught red handed, the crime still needs proper evidence to prove it in court. So the job is not only about catching criminals. Even if the criminals plan everything perfectly, they will always make one small mistake somewhere. Finding that mistake is the real job of a detective. That is what builds a strong case with solid evidence. Once that happens, the criminals cannot escape. You may wonder why I am explaining detective basics when this is a story about the Delhi Police. That is because the main job of the police here is to investigate and solve the case like detectives.
Even after all their efforts, the police only manage to arrest members of the tribal community, beat them and force them to confess. They still cannot find the real criminals. Honestly, it even feels like the director did not know how to move the story forward. The entire series follows only the police point of view. Suddenly in the fourth episode they introduce the actual criminals and show them committing the murders. That completely ruined the mystery for me. If the director wanted to show the criminals, they should have been introduced from the beginning. Since this is basically a whodunit, the better approach would have been to show both the investigation and the criminals' activities side by side from the start. Then the audience would have felt Wow they are this brutal while also enjoying how the police slowly uncovered the truth. Instead, the series spends a lot of time showing the personal lives of the Delhi Police officers. The focus becomes Look how much these police officers sacrifice for the public while struggling to take care of their own families and See how those personal problems affect their professional life. What director bro It is a very wrong diversion bro
As usual, not only Shefali Shah and Rasika Dugal, but everyone in the series has acted really well. I noticed one more thing. Most of Shefali's close up shots are profile shots. She usually keeps her head slightly tilted while looking at or talking to someone. Maybe it is because of the shape of her nose. Perhaps a straight close up would not look as good on camera for this character. When you watch it, try noticing that too. It took me years to notice it. But honestly it does not affect the story at all. In fact it even adds more intensity to her character. The whole series has a dark tone anyway. There is no special reason to present only this character like that. In fact, even if her own superior tells her This is what you have to do Tell the media that these are the Kachha Baniyan Gang members and they committed all six murders I am under pressure from above, she still takes her own stand. That is what gives this character so much weight. You may wonder why I keep writing so much about Shefali Shah. What can I do She and Rasika are the strongest characters worth talking about. But Rasika has much less screen time. So the face of the entire Delhi Crime series is really Shefali Shah. She is probably in her fifties now. It is not like I gain anything by praising her. If someone has done a great job, I will simply say they did a great job. It is available on Netflix. Give it a watch. Okay friends, let's meet in the next post. See ya!
